CNN Travel Guide’s list of ‘best destinations’ to visit this year includes Spanish town
American media CNN is the latest to praise Spain as a destination of choice for travelers. In its list of cities to visit in 2022 – compiled by a group of travel industry experts – they included a Spanish city – Valencia.
Praising the beauty of the capital of the Valencian Community, travel website CNN wrote: “This year, give rest to the crowded streets of Barcelona and head south for a few hours along the southeast coast of Spain to the port city of Valencia, the world capital of design. for 2022”.
He continued: “Home to a population of around 800,000, it is the third largest city in Spain and aims to be an emissions neutral destination by 2025”.
Mention is made of the huge futuristic complex located in the City of Arts and Sciences. This magnificent attraction is also home to Europe’s largest aquarium, a planetarium and a science museum. It was designed by Santiago Calatrava, the famous Valencian architect.
Within walking distance of this facility is another wonder of the city. The Turia Garden is built on the dry bed of the ancient Turia River and stretches for nine kilometres.
For lovers of Spanish gastronomy, you may already know that Valencia was the birthplace of the world-famous paella. Local Valencian chef, Ricard Camarena, has been awarded two Michelin stars for his restaurant. One of those stars – a green star for sustainability – means it’s the first restaurant in Valencia to receive this prestigious accolade.
An unmissable event on the Valencian traditions calendar is the Las Fallas Festival, which takes place every year in March – Covid permitting. It is an outrageous and colorful five-day street party with lots of fireworks and bonfires of cardboard or wooden sculptures.
