Siargao hailed as Asia’s top tourist destination in 2021


MANILA, Philippines – The country’s surfing paradise, Siargao, was once again recognized as Asia’s top tourist destination this year in the 2021 Readers’ Choice Awards by prestigious Condé Nast Traveler magazine.

Famous Palawan and Boracay Island took third and eighth places respectively. They beat other world favorites in Asia like Raja Ampat Islands in Indonesia (second), Phi Phi Islands in Thailand (ninth) and Phuket (10th).

In a press release sent to, the Department of Tourism (DOT) said the recognition is a testament to the hard work of the tourism industry “to strengthen our position as a preferred destination” for international travelers.

“At a time when we are exhausting all means to relaunch tourism in the country, we are grateful for this new recognition from Condé Nast Traveler. We have worked to strengthen our position as a flagship destination in the world while ensuring that health and safety protocols in our destinations are implemented and respected, ”said Tourism Secretary Berna Romulo-Puyat.

“This recognition bodes well for the recovery of the country’s tourism industry and for our latest global ‘More Fun Awaits’ campaign, which showcases DOT’s preparations for international leisure travel once restrictions are lifted,” said she added.

Meanwhile, the country ranked 20th in CNT’s World’s Best Countries list with a score of 91.63.

The annual Condé Nast Readers’ Choice Awards garner comments from over 800,000 readers worldwide based on their recent travel experiences at top hotels, resorts, cities, countries, islands, spas, trains, vacation rentals. cars, luggage, airlines, airports and cruises.

The 2021 Readers ‘Choice Awards results demonstrate readers’ recent travel experiences and – given the travel restrictions imposed by the pandemic – provide an idea of ​​where travelers ‘dream to go next’ when the world will reopen for international travel.

Siargao was also chosen by TIME as one of the 100 Greatest Places in the World 2021. Palawan ranked 19th out of Travel + Leisure magazine’s 25 Best Islands in the World and fifth in the Asian category this year. Palawan was also included in the CNT list of the 30 best beaches in the world in 2020.
